About Us

Timothy J. Orr, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of History at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree at Gettysburg College and M.A. and Ph.D. in History at Penn State University. For seven years prior to entering academia, Tim worked as a seasonal interpretation ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park. He has published an edited book of Civil War soldier letters, Last to Leave the Field: The Life and Letters of First Sergeant Ambrose Henry Hayward, and multiple essays and articles about the Civil War.

Laura Lawfer Orr is Director of Education at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum in Norfolk, Virginia. She received her B.A. in American Studies at Penn State University and her M.A. in History and Museum Studies at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Laura has worked as a seasonal interpretation ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park; the Director of Interpretation and Education at Stratford Hall; and Education and Volunteer Coordinator at Fort Monroe’s Casemate Museum.

Together, Tim and Laura co-wrote Never Call Me a Hero, published in 2017 by Harper Collins Publishing. They are currently working on a new book about a World War II dive bomber pilot, entitled No Routine Flights.
