For our first joint project, we conducted hours of oral history interviews with Jack “Dusty” Kleiss, World War II dive bomber pilot. From those interviews, we wrote Dusty’s bestselling memoir, Never Call Me a Hero, published in 2017 by William Morrow imprint of HarperCollins Publishing.

While Dusty passed away before the book was published, he had a hand in writing it in that we provided him with drafts of each chapter for him to read, edit, and add in stories we may have missed or he forgot to share during our oral histories. The final product is a book we’re proud to have worked on, and that book will preserve Dusty’s experiences for posterity.
